The Home Technology Awards: The Best, Worst, and Weirdest Things We've Seen

April 22, 2019

Love it or hate it, home technology is here to stay. As technology advances, people are developing new devices that claim to make your life easier and more efficient – and they’re getting creative. We’ve seen some great products that are life-changing, but we’ve also seen some that are pointless or just plain weird. Read on to discover our picks for the best, worst, and weirdest home technology gadgets that we’ve seen so far.

Best:

Ring Video Doorbell Pro Ring’s new video doorbell stole the show for the home technology awards. We love the Ring Video Doorbell Pro not only because it’s affordable, reliable, attractive, and easy to set up, but also because it supports Ring’s mission to reduce crime in communities. This gadget allows you to always have eyes on your home, and thieves notice the extra security measures. In fact, Ring partnered with some of the largest police departments in the country and found that communities with Ring had a 50% reduction in home burglaries.

Worst:

iKettle Although there are some good smart gadgets out there, there are a few that are just plain unnecessary – that’s why the iKettle took the spot for the worst home technology. The iKettle allows you to start boiling water immediately or at a scheduled time from an app. Don’t waste your counter space on this gadget. While it may save you a little bit of time, we think it’s a lot easier (and safer) to use a regular pot or opt for an Ozarka cooler that instantly dispenses hot water at the press of a button.

Weirdest:

Litter-RobotThe Litter-Robot is an automatic, self-cleaning litter box. Although millions of people claim it works, we found it a little weird. The Litter-Robot self-cleans and removes cat waste from the clean litter using gravity, and when you use the app, you’ll receive notifications when the waste drawer needs attention.Do you know of any home gadgets that deserve an award?
